The UCLA Film and Television Archive is dedicated to the preservation and exhibition of film history and culture. Its annual Festival of Preservation showcases those efforts, and this year includes a tour that stops in Houston for the first time. This weekend screenings celebrate the 30th anniversary of a landmark documentary about being gay in America, a classic of Sri Lankan cinema, and a rarely-seen silent film reflecting the lives of native British Columbians.

(USA, 1977, 135 min.)
Friday, 7:00 p.m.
Cosponsored by Q-Fest (www.q-fest.org) and the Houston GLBT Community Center (www.houstonglbtcommunitycenter.org)

Gamperaliya
Directed by Lester James Peries
(Sri Lanka, 1964, 120 min., subtitled)

A girl is forced into a loveless marriage. Gamperaliya has been compared to Satyajit Ray´s Apu Trilogy, a classic of Indian film history.
